Head to The Slopes This Winter

Ski holidays used to be reserved for the rather well off and rich, with the rest of us sticking to summer beach holidays and winters at home. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this plan, the great news is that ski resort prices have fallen over recent years, and now more and more of us are able to head off to a snowy wonderland and learn how to enjoy this fantastic and thrilling sport. Of course, you don’t have to be whizzing down a mountain at breakneck speed to enjoy this kind of break either, as the scenery and winter experience is just as much fun!

Family ski holidays are seriously popular nowadays, and when you really think about it, you can see why – the scenery, the experience, the fact your children are probably going to be so tired at the end of the day they’re simply going to fall into a relaxing, deep sleep, allowing you to enjoy a little peace and quiet yourself, as well as the many ski schools dedicated to younger skiers too.

You will be surprised at the sheer number of ski resorts on offer these days, and that means a range of prices to suit all budgets. Head to Europe and enjoy the wonder of Austria and Switzerland, Slovenia, or Italy, or head further north to Scandinavia and check out the Northern Lights whilst you ski your days away at a resort such as Geilo, for example. North America and Canada offer some of the world’s best ski resorts and conditions, such as Whistler Blackcomb in Canada, or Steamboat Colorado in the USA, set amongst some of the most breath-taking settings you will see anywhere on earth. You can even ski in Japan or Australia during the winter months, meaning that this sport is growing by the year.

Après ski is just as important as what you do during the day, so be sure to check out the facilities at your particular resort before booking. Many resorts are very close to towns or villages, which also have bars and restaurants to enjoy, as well as shopping opportunities. If you are a non-skier, this is even more important.

You don’t have to have your own ski equipment, so don’t worry about that, as the large resorts will all offer ski equipment hire for visitors, usually included in with the price of the holiday. Do remember to pack properly for your break however, and don’t forget sunglasses and suncream too, as the weather may be cold, but the sun will be out, and when reflecting off the snow you do run the risk of sunburn!

Put simply, if you’ve always wanted to try a snowy adventure, now is the perfect time.
